Organ-on-Chip and the 3R: New video published

Our 15 PhD students give you a virtual lab tour in 11 laboratories involved in the EUROoC International Training Network, where  they are working on finding alternatives to reduce animal testing. They not only introduce the EUROoC network, but explain the principles of the 3R and provide a broad overview of the organ-on-chip technology and its benefits. You are guided through the processes of building and setting-up an organ-on-chip experiment for in vitro modeling and drug screening. 4 PhD students will highlight their chips and applications.

The video is now available on our website.

EUROoC Month 15 Meeting & Mid-term Check

The EUROoC Month 15 Meeting & Mid-term Check was hosted by the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) in the Netherlands and took place on February 11th and 12th 2020. Despite one beneficiary, who was stopped by the big storm but substituted well by his ESR, all beneficiaries and ESRs attended the meeting and contributed to fruitful discussions and presentations. On February 11, our Project Officer from EU side joined the meeting and evaluated the progress of the project.

This was followed by a two and a half day long workshop on stem cells and a seminar on project and time management, organised by our beneficiaries Miltenyi Biotec B.V. & Co. KG and LUMC.

We would like to thank all participants for their valuable contribution and close cooperation.

See you all in Uppsala in July!

EUROoC Month 8 & ESR Kick-off Meeting

The EUROoC Month 8 & ESR Kick-off Meeting was organized by the Graz University of Technology and took place on 1st of July 2019 at the Institute of Analytical Chemistry and Food Chemistry. All beneficiaries, all recruited ESRs and almost all partner organisations were able to attend in person.

The meeting was combined with the first seminar on Team Science and Communication.

Almost all participants attended the EUROoCS 2019 conference, that took place the following two days. https://euroocs.eu/

ORCHID interim roadmap report

The EU-funded project ORCHID presented its first interim roadmap report entitled: ‘Organ-on-Chip in Development: Towards a European roadmap for Organ-on-Chip’ during the International Organ-on-Chip Symposium on November 8-9 2018 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. On 28th March 2019 this report was handed over to representatives of IMI and ECSEL Joint Undertakings in Brussels.
This report surveys the current landscape in the research, development, applications and market opportunities for Organ-on-Chip devices to establish the pillars of a European OoC ecosystem. Based on a bibliometric study, a market analysis, expert interviews, and panel discussions held at the ORCHID Vision Workshop (Stuttgart, 23 May 2018), this report outlines presently unmet needs, key challenges, barriers and perspectives of the field, and finally proposes recommendations towards the definition of a European roadmap that could render OoC systems (OoCs) realistic models of human (patho)physiology in the near future.
